Growth + Form
2023
Exhibition design for Gallery FUMI, Curated by Libby Sellers
Libby’s exhibition concept was inspired by the work of Biologist D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson. He spoke about recurring growth patterns in nature, how so many are mathematical and recurring. She also brought up Richard Hamilton’s Growth and Form show from 1951. Mycelium seemed the ideal material to support this, both ancient and current. The plinths are made with mycelium insulation panels supported by mycelium bricks. Two extra large microscope images of mycelium growth frame the exhibition, playing with the idea of scale.
A last element to support the idea of growth is a long frieze of Work In Progress images of all the artists, showing how the works went from sketch to final product.
